Youth World Finals to
debut in 2012
You’ve seen the excitement and hype of the Open
and Non-Pro World Finals—now it’s the NYCHA’s time! In 2012,
the NYCHA will have a World Finals for the Top 15 in the
Junior and Senior youth to be held in conjunction with the
Summer Scholarship Cutting and annual convention in Fort
Worth, Texas. You might want to hang on to your hats because
the inaugural 2012 Summer Show World Finals event will be
one you won’t want to miss! As with any new endeavor, you
probably have several questions, and hopefully those can be
answered below.
So, we’re having a World Finals in July 2012 and the
point year starts at the end of December 2011? How does that
work?
The first point year will be based on points accumulated from
Dec 28, 2011 to May 31, 2012. The Top 15 youth plus ties
only (no drop down) will compete at the 2012 Youth World
Finals held in conjunction with the 2012 Summer Scholarship
Cutting in July 2012.
Since qualifications are based on a half-year, does
that change the dates for age requirements?
Nope, the age requirements will remain the same. The first year
youth members will compete for half the year based on their
age as of Dec. 28, 2011. After that, the youth World Finals
entrants will be based on the new youth point year and on
points accumulated from June 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013. After
the half year is over, youth age calculation is whatever age
they are on June 1.
Okay, so let me make sure I understand this
right... If I’m 13 on Dec. 28, 2011 I can show in the Junior
youth until May 31, 2012 then on June 1, 2012 if I haven’t
turned 14 I will continue in the Junior youth?
That’s right! If you have turned 14 by June
1, you’ll move up to the Senior youth. But you’re not losing
a year, you’re right in line with the new point year then
and will get to show as a Junior youth for the 2012
qualifying year (even if it is technically a half-year). We
will post youth world standings, area leaders, Youth Rookie
of the Year, and affiliate standings based on this new point
year.
Cool! So what’s the format for the World Finals? Is
it like the Open and Non-Pro?
It’s very similar—the Top 15 in each
class plus ties (no drop down) will be eligible to compete
in the World Finals. There will be three rounds and a
non-working final. Points won for go-rounds and non-working
finals will be based on the number of entries in the class
with the maximum of five (5) points for first place.
What about my membership renewal that I just filled
out for 2012? Do I have to renew it again in May?
No, the membership cut-off of Dec. 31
remains the same. You will continue to renew your membership
at the end of the year as usual. Membership cards will be
printed showing the membership expiration date of Dec. 31
and will allow for the March 1 grace period, the same as all
other memberships. Only the point year changed, not the
membership renewal dates.
Got it! Wow, I can’t wait until the Summer Show this year!
If I think of a question later, can I get in touch with the
NCHA?
Of course! That’s why we’re here. If you have any questions or
concerns, don’t hesitate to contact your NCHA Youth
Coordinator, Dayna Smith. You can call her at 817- 244-6188
or shoot her an email at
youth@nchacutting. com and she’ll be happy to talk to
you about any question you may have.
